Gynecologic Cancer Care
University of Chicago Medicine gynecologic oncologists provide outpatient consultations in Pavilion A on the Silver Cross campus, just a short walk from the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross.
Comprehensive, Advanced Cancer Care
We diagnose and treat all forms of gynecologic cancers, including:
- Cervical cancer
- Endometrial cancer
- Gestational trophoblastic tumors
- Ovarian cancer
- Uterine sarcoma
- Vaginal cancer
- Vulvar cancer
Our oncologists have expertise treating rare cancers, such as germ cell tumors and clear cell carcinomas.
Chemotherapy and infusion treatments are available on site at the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center at Silver Cross in a quiet area staffed by highly trained cancer nurses. In July 2012, on-site services will extend to include sophisticated radiation therapy treatments designed to target cancers while sparing healthy tissue.
If you need surgery, our gynecologic oncologists will partner with your physician team to coordinate surgical care that may include minimally invasive or robotic surgical procedures.
Access to New Therapies
Our patients have access to clinical trials of promising new cancer treatments. S. Diane Yamada, MD, practices at our Silver Cross location and is the principle investigator at the University of Chicago Medicine for the Gynecologic Oncology Group, a cooperative clinical trials group supported by the National Cancer Institute.
Fertility Preservation
Cancer treatment may affect the ability to become pregnant. University of Chicago Medicine reproductive endocrinologist David P. Cohen, MD, an expert in cancer fertility preservation, is available to help women understand the options, and to offer embryo and egg freezing (cryopreservation) and other strategies to preserve fertility before cancer treatment.
