Genetics of Chronic Sinusitis
Study Summary
The purpose of this study is to learn more about the genetics (inheritance) of chronic sinusitis and identify genes involved in chronic sinusitis.
The objective of this study is to determine if gene variations contribute to the development of this condition in some individuals and families. Some studies suggest that chronic sinusitis may be familial (run in families), but the pattern of inheritance is not yet understood. By obtaining clinical information and analyzing DNA from blood samples from subjects with chronic sinusitis and comparing it to people with normal sinuses, we may learn more about the genetics (inheritance) of chronic sinusitis and identify genes involved in chronic sinusitis.
Participation Details
Patients with chronic sinusitis:
- Adults age 18 to 59 years
- Must have chronic sinusitis (defined by symptoms for more than 12 weeks despite treatment)
- Positive sinus CT scan
Patients with normal sinuses:
- Adults age 18 to 59 years
- Normal sinus or head CT Scan
Participation will consist of one visit to the lab for a questionnaire and blood draw lasting approximately 30 minutes. Compensation is $20.
