Do You Have Heart Failure?

Study Summary

The University of Chicago and Dr. Knight are conducting a research study to determine if people who have mild congestive heart failure will have improved quality of life and less heart failure with implantation of an automatic defibrillator device that can also pace the heart more efficiently using resynchronization (CRT-D) when compared to people treated with only an implanted defibrillator (ICD-only). We know that patients with more advanced congestive heart failure typically have a decrease in hospitalizations and symptoms with CRT-D (Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy and Defibrillation).

Your participation in this study will last approximately 48 months, and may extend longer.

You cannot be guaranteed of any personal benefit from participating in this study beyond the standard of care these devices are intended to treat. We hope this study will help determine if the implanted defibrillator with resynchronization results in improved outcome, so future people with your type of heart disorder might benefit.
