NIH Study for Severe Refractory Lupus
Study Summary
NIH Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
Lupus patients severely ill with kidney, brain, lung or blood involvement, who have undergone recent treatment with cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan) without a good response, may be eligible for a new stem cell transplantation therapy at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Our role in the protocol is to identify and pre-screen these gravely ill lupus patients, and, if they appear to be eligible, expedite their access to the NIH.
Patients need to stay at the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland, for two to three months.
If you think you might be eligible, discuss this with your treating doctor. Your doctor should contact Dr. Tammy Utset at the University of Chicago at (773) 834-1584, to discuss your case if he or she feels you should consider stem cell transplantation.
