Research Study for Heart Patients Undergoing Heart Imaging Exams
Study Summary
Dr. Lang and the University of Chicago are conducting a study to provide early feedback regarding performance and usability of an experimental ultrasound system. Ultrasounds use sound waves to obtain internal images of the body. Echocardiogram exams are a type of ultrasound exam that takes pictures of the heart. We are asking heart patients who are scheduled to undergo an echocardiogram exam as part of their normal, routine medical care at the University of Chicago to participate in this study. As part of this study, in addition to having your normal routine echocardiogram exam, you will also have additional pictures taken of your heart with the experimental ultrasound equipment. Dr. Lang will compare the images from the regular echocardiogram equipment to images taken with the experimental equipment as part of the evaluation of this experimental ultrasound equipment. There are no known immediate, delayed or long-term risks from routine ultrasound imaging. There are no known additional risks to you in using the experimental ultrasound equipment in this research study.
If you participate in this study, you will have your echocardiogram exam as part of your normal, routine medical care. After these images have been obtained, additional pictures of your heart will be taken with the experimental equipment. This will add an additional 15 minutes to your exam. Your name, medical record number and any other identifying information will be completely removed from both sets of images for this research study. With the exception of the echocardiogram images, we will not collect or record any information from your medical record as part of this study.
