Research Study for Patients Undergoing Nuclear Stress Imaging
Study Summary
The University of Chicago and Dr. Rupa Mehta are conducting a research study for patients who are scheduled to undergo nuclear stress imaging as part of their routine medical care. During this imaging procedure, you are given a drug that makes the heart and blood activity visible when viewed with a special camera. You will also be given a second drug which makes your heart beat faster, allowing us to see the activity of your heart under stress. Sometimes this is referred to as a stress test.
The purpose of this research study is to look at all the information that is normally gathered during your scheduled procedure, as well as your prior cardiac history and cardiac risk factors, in the nuclear cardiology laboratory at the University of Chicago Hospitals. This information will be collected to evaluate the success of our procedures. It may help us identify certain areas that need special attention. This information is intended to help us provide better care for future patients.
If you agree to participate in this study, you will be giving your permission for Dr. Mehta and her research team to collect information from your medical records for the purposes of this research. Since we are only collecting and analyzing medical data in this study, you will not be required to perform any tasks.
Benefits
You are not expected to benefit directly from this research. However, the medical knowledge obtained from this study may be of considerable benefit to help treat patients with heart disease in the future.
