Clinical Trials: Urology

The Section of Urology upholds a legacy of conducting innovative research, often yielding new treatment options for urologic diseases. Our researchers help prove that sorafenib--previously investigated as a treatment for colon cancer--was actually effective against advanced kidney cancer. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved its use for kidney cancer in December 2005.

We also offer clinical trials for conditions such as impotence and overactive bladder. In fact, the University of Chicago:

  • Performs more urologic cancer clinical trials than any other medical center in Illinois
  • Is one of a select number of institutions in the country that has both the leaders and the capacity to conduct all three phases of clinical trials

Our track record of breakthroughs dates back as far as 1941, when a University of Chicago study laid the groundwork for hormonal treatment of prostate, breast, and gynecological cancers.
