The nationally recognized University of Chicago Medicine Center for the Surgical Treatment of Obesity offers pre-surgical multidisciplinary weight loss surgery consultations and information sessions at a convenient location in Chicago's south suburbs.
Patients who come to the University of Chicago Physicians at Matteson have access to members of the same bariatric surgery team that provide care at our main campus in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood. Our surgeons offer the full range of surgical options for the treatment of severe obesity, including:
- Roux-en Y gastric bypass
- Adjustable gastric banding (Lap-Band®)
- Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch
- Vertical sleeve gastrectomy
- Complex revisional bariatric surgery (for people who previously had bariatric surgery)
Our program earned the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery's designation as a Center of Excellence -- signifying the highest standards in weight loss surgery.
Minimally Invasive Surgery Offers Many Benefits
University of Chicago Medicine bariatric surgeons are leaders in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) weight loss surgery, an approach performed through small incisions rather than a long abdominal incision. Minimally invasive surgery offers several benefits, including a shorter hospital stay, smaller scars, a shorter recovery and quicker return to daily activities.
Bariatric Surgery Information Sessions
Patients and their family members who are interested in learning about our weight loss surgery program can attend a free bariatric surgery information session at our Matteson practice at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month. Registration is required. Please call (773) 834-3524 to register.
