Pediatric General Surgery

University of Chicago pediatric general surgeons are leaders in treating a wide variety of childhood diseases. Our surgeons are known for their expertise in minimally invasive surgery, an approach that requires smaller instruments and fewer incisions than traditional surgical methods. In many cases, minimally invasive surgery is the best surgical solution because it causes as little disruption as possible to a child’s small body.
At our Matteson facility, our pediatric general surgeon provides outpatient consultations (including X-ray services) and post-surgical follow-up care for a broad spectrum of childhood conditions, including the following, and more:
- Gastroesophageal disease, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis
- Chest abnormalities, including pectus excavatum ("funnel chest")
- Abdominal abnormalities, such as pyloric stenosis and intestinal malrotation
- Pediatric cancers, such as neuroblastoma and Wilms' tumor (kidney cancer)
General surgery consults for adults are also available at the University of Chicago Physicians at Matteson practice.
