June 10, 2002

Mayumi Fukui has been appointed vice president for managed care at the University of Chicago Hospitals, and Ivy Bennett has been appointed vice president and chief marketing officer.

Fukui, 45, will be responsible for leading managed care contracting for both the Hospitals and the University of Chicago Physicians Group, the largest such group in Chicago. She previously served as director for managed care at the University of Chicago Hospitals from 1985 to 1995, then worked for six years as vice president for managed care programs at Advocate Health Partners.

A long-time resident of Hyde Park, Fukui has bachelor's degrees from Yale College and the Juilliard School and an MBA from the Yale School of Management.

Bennett, 50, came to the Hospitals from Allstate Insurance Company in Northbrook where she was assistant vice president of corporate marketing.

With master's degrees in public health from the University of Michigan and in marketing from Harvard Business School, Bennett started her career in health care as a business analyst for Kaiser Permanente Health Plan in California. She has nearly 20 years of marketing experience, including brand management at Chicago-based firms Quaker Oats and Kraft Foods.

"Both of these people bring us a wealth of experience," said Michael Riordan, president of the Hospitals and Health System.

"Mayumi Fukui comes to us with strong analytical and negotiating skills, a background in academic medicine, and familiarity with the Hospitals and the Chicago managed care marketplace. Ivy Bennett has years of experience in both health care and marketing, and an impressive track record in building brand awareness and increasing market share."
