September 21, 2012
Ben Gibson, formerly University of Chicago Medicine's director of governmental affairs, has been promoted to vice president for governmental affairs.
In announcing the news, Susan Sher, executive vice president for corporate strategy and public affairs, said the promotion reflects his leadership on behalf of the University of Chicago Medicine at all levels of government.
"His political expertise and insights have made him a keen adviser to the University of Chicago Medicine leadership and have helped raise our profile among legislators as we look forward to the opening of the New Hospital Pavilion and other key initiatives," Sher said.
A former litigator at the Chicago firm of Mayer Brown, he served as first assistant corporation counsel to Mayor Richard M. Daley. He has worked on government affairs in five Midwestern states while at SBC Communications prior to joining the University of Chicago Medicine in 2004.
Gibson was awarded the Comfort Starr Prize for excellence in political scholarship while an undergrad at Oberlin College. At Harvard Law School, he won the Ames Moot Court Competition on the way to earning his law degree cum laude.
