Art + Soul of Nursing Exhibit
The Art + Soul of Nursing exhibit, which premiered in May during National Nurses Week, captures the legacy of exemplary patient care at the University of Chicago Medicine.
Nurses chosen by their peers for their compassion and clinical knowledge are featured in the installation, which is on display at the Bernard A. Mitchell Hospital and in the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine. The text overlay in these images is the nomination of each recipient of the 2013 Nursing Excellence Awards, allowing viewers to learn the stories of excellence in nursing care.
In addition to the modern portraits by photographer David Christopher, the Art + Soul of Nursing also reflects the evolution of professional care with historical images of Florence Nightingale to the first years of nursing at the University of Chicago Medicine and milestones in recent decades.
The Healing Arts Program
This exhibit is sponsored by the University of Chicago Medicine & Biological Sciences Healing Arts Program.
The Healing Arts Program has a history of bringing the fine arts to our medical campus to share with patients, visitors, staff, and the surrounding community. The University of Chicago Department of Music, local choirs and independent musicians have brightened the campus with song while medical students-poets have recited original verse. Partnerships with museums have paved the way for rotating exhibits at our campus.
