Alessandro Fichera, MD

Assistant Professor of Surgery

Alessandro Fichera, MD, is an expert in the surgical treatment of diseases of the lower gastrointestinal tract. He specializes in minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and other colon, rectal, and anal problems. Minimally invasive surgery is an advanced surgical method that requires several small incisions instead of a long abdominal incision. It results in less pain, less scarring, and a faster recovery for patients.

Dr. Fichera has published several articles and has contributed to many book chapters on the surgical treatment of colorectal diseases. He is actively researching better ways to perform surgery, and is developing new surgical instruments.
