Alessandro Fichera, MDAssociate Professor of SurgeryAlessandro Fichera, MD, is highly skilled in the surgical treatment of diseases of the colon and rectum, including pelvic floor disorders. He specializes in minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and other colon, rectal, and anal problems. Minimally invasive techniques are advanced surgical methods that require several small incisions instead of a long abdominal incision. They result in less pain, less scarring, and faster recovery for patients. Dr. Fichera is an expert in minimally invasive surgical approaches, including transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM), anal sphincter-sparing techniques, as well as laparoscopic surgery techniques. Dr. Fichera has presented his work at national and international meetings. Additionally, he has published several articles and contributed to many book chapters on the surgical treatment of colorectal diseases. Dr. Fichera is the program director of the Colon and Rectal Surgery Training Program. He is also actively researching better ways to perform surgery, and developing new surgical instruments.
