Alessandro Fichera, MDAssociate Professor of SurgeryAlessandro Fichera, MD, is highly skilled in the surgical treatment of diseases of the lower gastrointestinal tract. He specializes in minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and other colon, rectal, and anal problems. Minimally invasive techniques are advanced surgical methods that require several small incisions instead of a long abdominal incision. They result in less pain, less scarring, and faster recovery for patients. Dr. Fichera is an expert in minimally invasive surgical approaches, including transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM), anal sphincter-sparing techniques, as well as laparoscopic and robotic surgery techniques. Dr. Fichera has published several articles and has contributed to many book chapters on the surgical treatment of colorectal diseases.
