His focus is on the power of lifestyle intervention to help prevent and treat disease. While training to become a physician, Dr. Levy worked as a certified personal trainer and nutritionist. His unique background shaped his approach to patient care. With a focus on treating patients with heart disease, metabolic syndrome, hypertension and dyslipidemia (high cholesterol), Dr. Levy evaluates patients' genetic and lifestyle risks to create a customized health portfolio for each individual. His emphasis on nutrition and exercise as modifiable risk factors allows him and his patients to produce real, sustainable results. "This is a team approach. I work with a cardiologist, lipidologist, endocrinologist, trainer and dietician as a group to help each individual," says Dr. Levy. He also serves as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks' physician team. Dr. Levy's research informs his goal of improving health through actionable, measurable lifestyle changes. Currently he is developing and studying physician-directed services that patients can easily access to track their progress in achieving better health. Specifically, each patient works with a liaison--via phone, Web or in person--connecting them to the physician team to help achieve the goals outlined in their health portfolios. The service monitors, tracks and evaluates each person's performance and the plan is adjusted to help patients attain the healthiest state possible. Dr. Levy's published works are focused on disease prevention, metabolic syndrome and reducing heart disease. Believing in his cause, Dr. Levy is now pursuing a master's degree in business administration at the University of Chicago to help solidify his robust model for preventive health care.
