Arlene Ruiz de Luzuriaga, MD, MPHAssistant Professor of MedicineArlene Ruiz de Luzuriaga, MD, MPH, treats patients with a wide range of skin conditions, including acne, rosacea, psoriasis, dermatitis and skin cancer. She specializes in dermatopathology, studying biopsies to more accurately diagnose skin cancers and other cutaneous conditions. Dr. Ruiz de Luzuriaga's research focuses on finding health patterns in dermatology and dermatopathology. In one study, she examined patient demographics in relation to the utilization of health care services for molluscum contagiosum -- a type of skin infection caused by a virus. She also is interested in the use of information technology for the improvement of patient care, diagnosis and treatment algorithms, and medical education. In addition to her clinical and research roles, Dr. Ruiz de Luzuriaga teaches residents and fellows about general dermatology.
