As a specialist in obstetric anesthesia, Barbara Scavone, MD, provides pain relief for labor and delivery, as well as anesthesia for surgical procedures such as cesarean delivery. She works with obstetricians and nurses to ensure that all patients are kept safe and comfortable.

Her research focus is on maternal safety, timing of epidural analgesia and relation to labor outcomes, postdural puncture headache, and epidural blood patch. She has received several awards for her research at national meetings, presented at approximately 100 meetings, published 12 articles, and contributed six book chapters.

Dr. Scavone is past president of the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology, and serves as a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Council on Patient Safety in Women's Healthcare and National Partnership for Maternal Safety.
