Everett Vokes, MDProfessor of MedicineChairman, Department of MedicineSection Chief, Hematology/OncologyDr. Everett Vokes is an internationally renowned expert in the treatment of head and neck cancers. His work has focused on increasing cure rates through the early use of sophisticated, combined modality therapy approaches. These are centered on the simultaneous delivery of novel chemotherapy and radiotherapy agents. In addition to increasing cure rates, the goal is to allow for organ preservation and maintenance of organ function, such as speech and swallowing. Dr. Vokes's work has been published in more than 400 peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed publications, and has been funded by the National Cancer Institute and other organizations. Another interest of Dr. Vokes is in the area of lung cancer. Dr. Vokes is chairman of the Respiratory Committee of the Cancer and Leukemia Group B. His work in lung cancer is directed at identifying new active therapeutic agents and the interaction of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Dr. Vokes has been named many times to America's best doctor lists in America's Top Doctors, Best Doctors in America, Chicago magazine, and Good Housekeeping. He serves on the editorial boards of several of the most prestigious journals in oncology and was elected a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigations.
