Harvey M. Golomb, MD

Professor of Medicine

Harvey M. Golomb, MD, is an expert in medical oncology, specializing in the diagnosis and management of hairy cell leukemia and lung cancer. He is an authority on genetic abnormalities that cause various cancers, and on chemotherapy for leukemias, lymphomas and lung cancer. In addition, Dr. Golomb was one of the first physicians in the world to perform clinical studies using interferon, a naturally produced substance that can be used to boost a patient's immune system.

Since 1981, Dr. Golomb has held many prominent positions at the University of Chicago Medicine, including chief of the Section of Hematology/Oncology, chairman of the Department of Medicine, dean of clinical affairs, Division of Biological Sciences and chief medical officer. He currently serves as a senior advisor to the president of the medical center.

Dr. Golomb is also a leader in the broader medical oncology community. He has authored more than 350 peer-reviewed articles and nearly 300 abstracts, and has co-edited multiple editions of Oncologic Therapies, an industry textbook. A renowned speaker, Dr. Golomb is frequently invited to lecture at conferences on cancer genetics and malignant lymphomas. In addition, he is a past president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the leading society for clinical cancer research.

Dr. Golomb has received many awards and honors, and is consistently selected as a top doctor by Chicago magazine.
