Joe G.N. Garcia, MDLowell T. Coggeshall Professor of MedicineChairman, Department of MedicineDr. Joe G.N. "Skip" Garcia is a leading authority on lung diseases. He is an expert on the genetics, prevention, and treatment of acute and chronic lung disease as well as the molecular biology of blood vessels. His current research focuses on vascular leak syndromes, including new ways to prevent leaks, reduce swelling, minimize tissue damage, and restore the integrity of vessel walls. Dr. Garcia's research is funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute--part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The author or co-author of more than 250 peer-reviewed journal articles and 25 book chapters, Dr. Garcia is the co-editor-in-chief of Microvascular Research. In addition to serving as an associate editor for a number of respected scientific journals, he is also a member of numerous NIH committees.
