Kevin Roggin, MD

Assistant Professor of Surgery

A board-certified surgical oncologist, Dr. Kevin Roggin specializes in the surgical treatment of upper gastrointestinal tract cancers (stomach, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, colorectal, retroperitoneal sarcomas, and bile duct/cholangiocarcinoma). He is an active member of the GI tumor board--which offers patients a multidisciplinary team-oriented approach to complete cancer care.

Dr. Roggin has initiated several clinical research trials and serves as an active member of the Clinical Trials Review Committee. Currently, he is working on the following clinical trials to:

  • Determine the accuracy of preoperative multidetector CT and endoscopic ultrasound for predicting resectability in pancreatic cancer
  • Prospectively study the role of endoscopic ultrasound-guided biopsy and cyst-fluid analysis to predict the malignant potential of pancreatic cystic neoplasms
  • Evaluate the role of diagnostic peritoneal lavage in peritoneal fluid sampling for preoperative staging of advanced gastric cancer
  • Elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis in both pancreatic cystic neoplasms and cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer)
  • Design novel treatment protocols for the multi-modal treatment of locally-advanced cholangiocarcinoma
  • Determine preoperative predictors of mortality, morbidity and quality of life in older patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy for pancreatic head adenocarcinoma

In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr. Roggin is actively involved in surgical education. He is the associate program director for the Section of General Surgery Residency Program and Surgical Oncology Fellowship, and he serves on the Surgical Education Committee.
