Konstantin Umanskiy, MD

Associate Professor of Surgery

Dr. Konstantin Umanskiy specializes in the treatment of a wide variety of colon and rectal diseases such as colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease), complex anorectal disorders and diverticulitis. He uses traditional surgical approaches, as well as state-of-the-art minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic techniques.

Dr. Umanskiy has strong clinical and research interests in innovative surgical techniques, especially robotic and telemedicine applications for colon and rectal surgery.

Dr. Umanskiy is a member of the multidisciplinary Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center.

Using an innovative robotic approach, Dr. Umanskiy and a team of surgeons were able to resect a cancerous mass from Taylor Murphy's rectum and remove her colon without the need for more invasive reconstructive surgery. Read more.

Dr. Umanskiy performed several robotic colorectal surgeries to remove Abbie Perkovich's diseased colon (large intestine) and build an internal reservoir, known as a J pouch. Though recovery was challenging, Perkovich says she always felt a sense of ease around Umanskiy. Read more.

Using his own hand-drawn illustrations, Dr. Umanskiy helped Mary Shedd understand why minimally invasive surgery was the best treatment option to help her beat colon cancer.
