His clinical expertise involves caring for patients affected by genetic forms of retinal disease, including retinitis pigmentosa, Stargardt disease, congenital retinoschisis, Usher syndrome, Bardet-Biedl syndrome, familial exudative vitreoretinopathy, Norrie disease, Leber's congenital amauoris, choroideremia, Sorsby disease, and Best disease. Dr. Grassi's research focuses on developing cell based models of retinal disease. His work has significant implications for enhancing the current understanding of the molecular basis of retinal disease, and also for providing critical insights into its treatment. Dr. Grassi has earned several awards for his research and his clinical performance, including the Heed Foundation Fellowship and the American University Professors of Ophthalmology research award.
