Michael L. Maitland, MD, PhDAssistant Professor of MedicineMedical oncologist Dr. Michael Maitland focuses on caring for patients with lung cancer, esophageal cancer, mesothelioma, and advanced solid tumors. He is a broadly trained physician-scientist who leads a research program in translational medicine and cancer therapeutics. The goal of translational medicine is to improve patient care by quickly and effectively applying recent advances in laboratory research. The program currently concentrates on angiogenesis inhibitors, a class of drugs that treat tumors by modifying their blood supply. Dr. Maitland applies his expertise in human genetics, clinical pharmacology, molecular biology, and clinical investigation to develop new methods to tailor the selection and dosing of medical treatment to each patient's specific circumstances. Personalized treatment aims to make cancer care more effective, but with fewer side effects and complications. Practice LocationCenter for Advanced Medicine
