Mukta Krane, MDAssistant Professor of SurgeryMukta Krane, MD, is a skilled surgeon with advanced training in colorectal surgery. Dr. Krane specializes in pelvic floor disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, and other benign and malignant colorectal diseases. She uses minimally invasive surgical techniques to treat colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and complex anorectal disorders. Dr. Krane is a member of the University of Chicago Medicine's multidisciplinary pelvic floor health team. In the Center for Pelvic Health, she uses advanced technology, including 3-D ultrasound, manometry, and electromyography, to diagnose fecal incontinence, sphincter injuries, constipation, and other pelvic floor disorders. Her research interests include quality of life changes resulting from treatment for anorectal disorders. She also has an interest in outcomes-based research in colorectal diseases. Additionally, Dr. Krane’s basic science research has focused on the use of immunotherapeutic agents (such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interferongamma, and nuclear factor kappa B) to treat radio-resistant and chemoresistant tumors.
