Nancy Beckman, PhD, is a clinical psychologist who specializes in chronic conditions, with a focus on chronic pain and cancer. She also treats patients suffering from depression, anxiety and trauma.
In order to offer her patients their best outcomes, Dr. Beckman’s approach to care is patient-directed in that she bases her treatment recommendations on careful consideration of her patients’ preferences and biopsychosocial factors. This allows her to work with her patients collaboratively to build a treatment plan that best suits their goals.
Dr. Beckman uses evidence-based treatments, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness strategies, to help patients adjust their thoughts and behaviors surrounding their condition(s) in order to improve symptoms, mood and quality of life. She works closely with other medical professionals to provide comprehensive care.
Along with her dedication to her patients, Dr. Beckman is also passionate about using research to enhance care for her patients. She is investigating therapies to improve access and outcomes for patients with chronic pain. She is involved in the development and evaluation of integrated behavioral health programs and training and dissemination of behavioral health interventions and teaching methods.
Additionally, Dr. Beckman is teaching and mentoring the next generation of psychologists. She trains clinical psychology graduate students and lectures nationally on topics including integrated care, the psychological treatment of chronic pain and motivational interviewing.
