Raphael Lee, MD, ScD is recognized internationally as an expert in plastic surgery, trauma and bioengineering. He is highly skilled in reconstructive plastic surgery, nerve repair, gynecologic plastic surgery, and the correction of scar and contour deformities.

He collaborates with university dermatologists in reconstructive surgery following treatment of skin cancers. Dr. Lee has pioneered new reconstructive surgery methods for correction of congenital and acquired gynecologic defects.

Dr. Lee was named one of "America's Top Surgeons" by the Consumers’ Research Council of America. He is an editor and co-author of four books, and more than 180 articles and book chapters. Additionally, he has been named an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellow, a Searle Scholar, and a MacArthur Fellow.

Dr. Lee has been appointed to the committees on Molecular Medicine and Clinical and Translational Medicine at the University of Chicago. He holds advanced degrees in biomedical engineering, including a master's degree from Drexel University and a doctorate from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. He has also received more than 30 research awards and honorary degrees. In addition, Dr. Lee has served in leadership roles in several scientific organizations and societies.
