Roy E. Weiss, MD, PhDProfessor of MedicineChief, Section of EndocrinologyDirector, General Clinical Research CenterDr. Roy Weiss is an expert in diseases of the thyroid and pituitary disorders--such as Cushing’s disease. Dr. Weiss has described several genetic diseases of the thyroid along with Dr. Samuel Refetoff. Together, they have one of the largest referral centers for genetic thyroid disease in the world. He also has one of the largest programs in the Midwest in the diagnosis and treatment of Cushing’s disease. His research centers on the mechanisms of thyroid hormone action at the molecular, physiological, and psychological levels. Dr. Weiss has examined the molecular basis for the syndrome of resistance to thyroid hormone (RTH). He also has several clinical studies evaluating treatment of thyroid disease. Dr. Weiss’s research is supported by funds from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In addition to teaching medical student courses in physiology and pathology, Dr. Weiss currently holds a K24 award from the NIH to mentor fellows in clinical research. He has been an invited speaker at national and international conferences. Dr. Weiss serves as associate editor of Thyroid and on the editorial board of the American Journal of Physiology.
