Sarah M. Hilkert, MD, MPH

Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Science and Pediatrics

Sarah Hilkert, MD, provides comprehensive, compassionate care to children with decreased vision in one or both eyes. Dr. Hilkert has a special interest in treating conditions caused by abnormal eye development, such as amblyopia (lazy eye) and strabismus (misalignment of the eyes) and pediatric cataracts.

Dr. Hilkert is not only passionate about delivering high-quality care to her patients, but she is also dedicated to resident education. She has investigated methods of training ophthalmology residents to improve communication skills when discussing difficult topics with their patients. Having participated in medical mission trips to Ghana and Nicaragua, she also has an interest in health disparities and global health. She is currently reviewing improvements in survival related to retinoblastoma (the most common eye cancer among children) in developing countries.
