If you have ovarian cancer, you know the diagnosis can be physically and emotionally challenging. But you don’t have to battle this cancer alone. We have cared for many women with ovarian cancer. We can help you. The gynecologic oncologists at the University of Chicago Medicine are highly experienced in diagnosing and treating ovarian cancer. (Note: The term ovarian cancer includes the closely related cancers: fallopian tube and primary peritoneal cancer.)

We care for patients who:

  • Have an ovarian mass that needs to be evaluated for malignancy
  • Have a new or suspected diagnosis of invasive or recurrent ovarian cancer
  • Have a new diagnosis of primary or recurrent borderline tumor
  • Want a second opinion on the best possible treatment
  • Are interested in participating in a clinical trial or study
  • Have a BRCA mutation and wish to discuss approaches to reduce the risk of developing cancer, including prophylactic surgery

Nationally Designated Cancer Center

Our ovarian cancer specialists are members of the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCCCC), one of only two National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in Illinois. Here, teams of physicians and scientists work across disciplines to discover new methods for detecting and treating cancer through laboratory studies, clinical trials and prevention research.

Family-Centered Inpatient Unit

Center for Care and Discovery Center for Care and Discovery

Patients undergoing surgery or treatment for ovarian cancer are cared for in the Center for Care and Discovery, a state-of the-art hospital designed with many thoughtful amenities for patients, families and visitors. Patient rooms, located on the top floors, are spacious enough to accommodate family members for extended stays. Features include foldout sofas, flat screen TVs and beautiful views of the Chicago skyline, Lake Michigan and the University of Chicago campus.

Special Care for Women at High Risk for Developing Ovarian Cancer

The Cancer Risk Clinic at the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center is designed for women who may have a greater risk of ovarian cancer because of their personal or family history. Screening, genetic testing, counseling and a wide range of helpful resources are available for those at risk for hereditary cancers. The clinic is very experienced with BRCA (a gene linked to breast and ovarian cancer) and Lynch syndrome (associated with an increased risk of several cancers including ovarian). Working together with the gynecologic oncology team, the Cancer Risk Clinic creates a comprehensive surveillance and treatment plan that is adapted to your current life circumstances. »Learn more about the Cancer Risk Clinic.
