Our Stem Cell Transplant Team

The University of Chicago Medicine is dedicated to providing stem cell transplant patients and their families with the highest standard of care. While at the medical center, each patient and their family are cared for by a closely knit multidisciplinary team of clinicians that includes:

  • A primary transplant physician who is also a hematologist/oncologist
  • A dedicated nurse coodinator
  • A social worker
  • A financial counselor who can answer questions about insurance coverage.
  • An inpatient team of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other clinicians who oversee the patient's care during his or her hospital stay
  • Other support staff, including dietitians and pharmacists, as needed

All of the physicians in the stem cell transplant program are recognized nationally and internationally for their expertise:

  • They are very active in important organizations devoted to cancer and stem cell research. For example, our director is the co-chair of the Lymphoma Committee for the International Bone Marrow Transplant Registry.
  • They are widely published in leading medical journals, and their opinion is sought by other physicians around the world. Many of our physicians speak regularly at international symposiums.
  • Their research is funded by the National Institutes of Health and other organizations.
