The Section of Dermatology specializes in the treatment of inflammatory and neoplastic skin disorders that present therapeutic problems or complex medical complications. Among these disorders are:
- Severe acne
- Major blistering diseases, such as pemphigus, pemphigoid, and bullous erythema multiforme
- Connective tissue diseases, such as lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, and scleroderma
- Malignant melanoma
- Mycosis fungoides
- Severe psoriasis and eczematous dermatitis
- Pyoderma gangrenosum and necrotizing vasculitis
This section maintains special interests in the following:
- Acne
- Chronic leg ulcer problems
- Disorders of hair growth
- Disturbances of pigmentation
- Genetic skin disorders
- Infections, especially by herpes and wart viruses, fungi, and bacteria
- Nail problems
Dermatological surgery and oncology services are available for patients with benign or malignant cutaneous lesions.
In addition, we have a comprehensive referral laboratory that offers tissue processing, slide preparation, interpretation, and reports. The laboratory's services also include dermatohistopathology, electron microscopy, immunophenotyping, and immunofluorescence.
