Epilepsy Diagnosis
At the University of Chicago's Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, we place a great deal of emphasis on getting the diagnosis right. Proper diagnosis is vital to identifying the treatment that will best control your seizures.
Experienced Staff
Our physicians are acquainted first-hand with all the nuances of this complex disease. This allows them to diagnose the most complex types of epilepsy--and identify the right treatment. They can answer all your questions, such as:
- Are my spells really seizures?
- Do I really need to take anti-epileptic drugs?
- What type of seizures do I have?
- What might have caused my seizures?
- Do my seizures come from only one part of my brain or from several?
A major advantage of coming to the University of Chicago's Comprehensive Epilepsy Center is the knowledge and level of experience you'll find here. Our epileptologists and technologists see patients with different types of epilepsy every day. They are familiar with and personally conduct the most up-to-date research on the disease. Our staff also meet with other national and international epilepsy specialists several times a year.
The Most Advanced Diagnostics
To help them make an accurate diagnosis, our staff relies on the most advanced diagnostic tools available. Using data from EEG, CT, and MRI tests, they create functional 3-D models of the patient's epileptic focus within their brain. These models enable us to pinpoint the source of seizures--which is the first step toward successful treatment.
