The General Internal Medicine Section specializes in primary care for adults, and in the care of patients with acute and chronic multi-system diseases. Our care emphasizes preventive health and general well-being. The section also includes programs on geriatrics, physician-patient communications and medical ethics.

University of Chicago internists can be seen at the Medical Center and at many locations in the Chicago area.

The Primary Care Group is the main focus for adult primary care activity at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Medical care is delivered by faculty and resident physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, clinical nutritionists, and a health educator. Specialty services include

  • Allergy desensitization injections
  • Gynecology
  • Hypertension screening
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Travel immunizations

The medical care staff sees patients by appointment, although walk-in and same day appointments are available for established patients. A large nursing station is used to triage walk-in patients and to provide supervised nursing care to patients. The triage effort includes telephone consultation to provide urgent medical advice, as well as to coordinate visits to the clinic. After hours medical care and advice are coordinated through a 24-hour physician on-call service.

University of Chicago Physicians Group offices in several locations provide primary care for adults with specialists in general internal medicine. »Learn more about our off-site clinic locations
