Department of Medicine
The Department of Medicine consists of approximately 200 full-time physicians specially trained in primary care as well as medicine's subspecialties.
We are committed to excellence in patient care, research, and education:
- Our physicians provide the highest quality of care for patients in our community as well as tertiary referrals.
- The department is renowned for its contributions to basic science, investigations that directly affect patient care, and clinical research evaluations of new drugs and devices.
- The faculty are involved in half of all required coursework in the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Medicine. We are home to three residency programs--including the nationally regarded internal medicine training program--and 12 fellowship programs--including six federally funded training grants that produce the physician-scientists of the future.
As the largest department in the University of Chicago's Division of Biological Sciences, we are proud to set a standard of accomplishment that places us among the best academic medical centers in the country.
