Urgent Patient Transfer
We follow an expedited admission protocol for patients with neurological and neurosurgical emergencies facilitating direct attending-to-attending contact and an efficient process to facilitate rapid patient admissions. Call the University of Chicago Medicine Transfer Center at 1-855-834-4782. A Transfer Center nurse will immediately connect you with one of our attending physicians to discuss the patient and help organize specific arrangements and directives for safe transport.
Urgent Physician-to-Physician Consultation
If you are a physician who would like an urgent consultation with an attending neurovascular specialist, call (773) 702-1000 and ask the operator to contact us directly at pager 6020.
Emergency Helicopter Transport
The University of Chicago Aeromedical Network (UCAN) is our emergency air medical service. UCAN offers a unique benefit for patients needing urgent transfer to the University of Chicago Medicine. Unlike the services other medical centers use, it's exclusively ours -- meaning our patients are always top priority.
UCAN is available 24 hours a day, providing safe transfer of critically ill patients to our medical campus from hospitals within a 200-mile radius of Chicago. We also can make arrangements for patients traveling from greater distances. The UCAN team includes flight nurses, flight physicians and other specially trained professionals.
