Pathology
Staff members of the University of Chicago Medicine Department of Pathology offer a variety of specialized diagnostic services and other patient care services. For the purpose of these functions, the department is divided into two major sections: Anatomical Pathology and Clinical Pathology.
The Anatomical Pathology Section includes autopsy, surgical pathology and cytopathology, and special service laboratories--neuropathology and renal pathology. Many of our physicians have expertise in the following:
- Bone pathology
- Cardiovascular and pulmonary pathology
- Diagnostic electron microscopy
- Histochemistry
- Immunocytochemistry/in situ hybridization
- Tumors of the genital tract
The Clinical Pathology Section includes the following service laboratories:
- Blood bank/transfusion medicine
- Clinical chemistry/toxicology
- Clinical microbiology/immunology
- Coagulation
- Endocrinology
- Hematology/hematopathology
- Molecular diagnostics
