Services Offered

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy helps patients prevent, lessen, or overcome functional limitations and impairments. At the University of Chicago Hospitals, our therapists help individuals readjust to skills they use in daily life. Our occupational therapy team is trained in splint fabrication, exercise, and adaptation techniques that improve independence and quality of life. Our team also includes a certified hand specialist.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapists aim to restore, maintain, and promote optimal physical function. Our therapists are highly skilled in the assessment and treatment of movement dysfunctions. Our team consists of therapists with post-graduate training, including specialists with certifications in orthopaedics, lymphedema, wound care, and the McKenzie approach for treatment of spinal disorders.

Therapeutic Recreation

Our certified therapeutic recreation specialist helps individuals protect and improve their health by engaging in activities. Our patients can choose from a broad variety of activities and relaxation techniques, including crocheting, jewelry-making, and hatha yoga. Therapeutic recreation is an inpatient service, and is only available in obstetrics, cardiology, hematology/oncology, and psychiatry. Individuals can participate in groups or one-on-one sessions.
