Chicago Weight: A Weight Management Program for Adults

The University of Chicago Medicine Weight Management Program is designed to help patients manage excess weight, as well as any associated medical conditions. Our multidisciplinary team works with each patient to create an individualized care plan. We offer a full spectrum of services and, depending on your needs, may recommend nutritional and physical activity counseling, psychological and lifestyle counseling, medications, endoscopic bariatric procedures and/or surgery. When you first visit the Weight Management Program, a specialized team will provide a health assessment to:

  • Exclude any secondary causes of weight gain, including medication-induced weight gain
  • Assess the presence of any comorbidities, such as diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, depression, emotional eating, binge eating disorder
  • Evaluate risk factors for chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes and stroke
  • Recommend ways to change behavior, consistent with your personality, lifestyle and needs
  • Prescribe medical treatment of excess weight as indicated
  • Determine if bariatric surgery or endoscopic bariatric procedures are a good option and, if so, collaborate with the Center for Surgical Treatment of Obesity and the Center for Endoscopic Treatment of Obesity to provide pre- and post-operative support

Our ultimate goal is to help patients to achieve and maintain a healthier lifestyle. We work closely with the following programs:
